The terrible crash that occured between Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen will forever remain the most notable – as well as the most terrifying – event to happen during this GP. One car running into another, then flying high, overturning, letting the driver’s helmet touch the ground, coming back to stand on its four wheels, and then finally crashing into a tyre wall – that’s not the kind of event to be easily forgotten! I’ve seen a lot of similar accidents during those years that I’ve been a fan of F1, but every time it happens I feel my blood freeze in my veins.

This is the second time I congratulate Lewis Hamilton – his second victory of the season. And it makes him the leader of the championship – wow! Go, Lewis!

At last, one of my favourite drivers won a GP. It happened today – 30 May – in Turkey, under dry conditions, thought the radar kept promising us rain. A few drops appeared on the cameras, but nothing serious happened.

Monaco GP is always special. This time it was a bit more special than usual with the safety car deployed four times during the race. Several collisions and crashes added greatly to the excitement – and even though all three of my favourites disappointed me again (read the rules more thoroughly next time, Michael!), I still enjoyed every moment of the race.

The fifth GP of the season marked the return of Formula 1 to Europe, and, as usual, this means a more civil – and somewhat less exciting – race. Not a trace of rain – and dry races will never come close to rivalling rainy ones. But I still enjoy them all.

And Vitaly Petrov scored his first points – wahey! Lewis Hamilton won Silver, and only Michael Schumacher – of all my favourites – keeps breaking my heart. But I won’t give up hope.

After that rainy qualification everyone expected a rainy race, since it rains every day in Malaysia – but it was unexpectedly dry, and a bit too predictable to be exciting. Rainy GPs are usually more interesting than dry ones, while rainly qualifications are just crazy – just like this last one was, pushing some of the top drivers to the back of the grid. But they proved they could fight…

Everyone expected a rainy GP. All cars started wearing tyres for rain, expecting to change to heavy rain ones soon, and the clouds in the sky promised the usual unpredictable rainy race – one of those in which the one qualified the last can sometimes finish the first and vice versa. The first few laps went more or less according to this pattern, but then the track got dry, and despite all the forecasts of more rain, actively discussed by all drivers on the radio with their teams, nothing like that happened.

It happened five days ago, on Sunday, 14 March. The season has officially started: the first season since 1993 without refuelling. So the cars are very heavy, and the drivers have to get used to the new conditions; but they are the best of the best, and can face this challenge like they have already faced many others – and emerged triumphantly.
