English style in landscape design is quite popular in Russia, along with Japanese, Chinese and French styles. Among my articles on the topic there's one about English gardens - the article is in Russian, but I showed Rosemary the pictures that illustrate it, and she confirmed that I'd picked the right ones.

Scaremongers... all they have is the "single story" of Russia, you know.

The architectural features there remind me of some of our stately homes & their gardens: classically-inspired usually.

Just another reminder that there's so much more in common between us than the scaremongers are prepared to admit.

There's an enduring fascination with dinosaurs. I went through it - and went through it again when our daughter Dani was about Janna's age (and by then there was much more literature about dinos, as well as the "animatronic" full-sized beasties)

This Wikipedia link is to a page about our local dinos - sculptures made back in the 19th century, when far less was known than now. As the entry says, the sculptures are less than accurate - but great fun.

Ah, thanks, I see what you mean! If as you say he was doing that under orders from his team no wonder he was angry! (In fact I seem to recall that there was an occasion a few years ago, in the early days of there being a safety car in F1, that one driver did do that for exactly that reason, before that rule was in place. Probably a Ferrari ;).

I know what Vettel was penalised for. What I mean is, his team might have asked him to create that gap to keep the rest of the drivers behind and thus help Webber. If he earned his penalty through obeying the team orders, it would explain why he was so gloomy later.

I agree with your comments about Schumey - it was, at best, highly undisciplined - and potentially very dangerous. Hopefully after reviewing the video coverage (especially from Rubinho's car) he'll realise just how dangerous it was - and how brave Rubinho was to continue the passing move.

I'm baffled though by your comment on Vettel's penalty. Our commentators called it quickly - there's a rule that while the safety car is on circuit no car should allow a gap of more than 10 cars' lengths between their own car and the one in front, and Vettel appeared to be much more than 10 lengths behind Webber towards the end of the lap where the safety car pulled off the circuit. I guess it just emphasises how complex the rules are!

Well, it took our BBC a while to mention your terrible fires - long after you told us about them. I gather from this morning's news that gradually your emergency services are winning the battle & getting most of them under control. For the sake of you & your fellow Russians I certainly hope this is true.
