Another boring GP: Brazil

Dry races tend to be boring, even with a safety car deployed. This one was no exception.

First delayed for ten minutes and then stopped with the red flag for another 45 minutes, the race might never take place at all. The combination of torrential rain and approaching darkness made it a big question whether it would be run after all. I nearly gave up and went out.

…but not exactly joyful. Lewis is swiftly losing his chances at winning the title this year; Michael just drives for pleasure. And what happened to Vitaly is absolutely unbelievable – especially the penalty he received after the race for causing an “avoidable” accident. Dear sirs, if this was an avoidable accident, please define an unavoidable one.

Once again Lewis didn’t finish – though this time it wasn’t his fault. Once again Michael failed badly at the same time confirming again his reputation of a very rude driver. Once again Vitaly didn’t get any points.

Lewis broke his car almost instantly – need I say more?
Well, this circuit is usually associated with high speed and high expectations. Speed was okay this time too, but as for expectations, I’m not so sure. There was little show in it.

When Vitaly Petrov made it from the 23rd position to the ninth within the first lap, it was great. When Michael Schumacher did something very similar, it was great too. But, like many times before during the season, it was Lewis Hamilton who brought me the most joy: he won and became the leader of the championship once more.

A week after the exceedingly dull German GP this one was more eventful. Until the safety car was deployed I felt a bit like falling asleep, to be honest, but when some parts lying on the track prompted the safety car, I quickly woke up. The mess in the pits with loose wheels flying around and cars colliding because of the errors of the mechanics… that was definitely something to see.

To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement of the year. It was two hours wasted – no events at all except the infamous “Fernado – is – faster – than – you ….please confirm you understand this message”, followed by a “sorry”.

This one was rather orderly, though not exactly uneventful. Vettel and Massa lost a lot of positions after the first lap, which, I guess, was quite a significant (though negative) event for them and their respective fans. Button, on the contrary, has gained a lot, and finished the fourth after starting 14th – certain heroism on his part. My favourites – except Lewis – still keep disappointing me, be it their fault or not; one day I might stop caring.

The terrible crash that occured between Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen will forever remain the most notable – as well as the most terrifying – event to happen during this GP. One car running into another, then flying high, overturning, letting the driver’s helmet touch the ground, coming back to stand on its four wheels, and then finally crashing into a tyre wall – that’s not the kind of event to be easily forgotten! I’ve seen a lot of similar accidents during those years that I’ve been a fan of F1, but every time it happens I feel my blood freeze in my veins.
