What to say about the German GP?

July 25th, 2010 by Irina

To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement of the year. It was two hours wasted – no events at all except the infamous “Fernado – is – faster – than – you ….please confirm you understand this message”, followed by a “sorry”.

Alonso’s fans may argue that Alonso was so many points ahead and definitely a better candidate for the title from Ferrari, and that he was indeed faster and there was Vettel behind, prepared to overtake the Ferraris at the first opportunity. That’s all fine, but how about Felipe Massa’s desire to win races when he can and the F1 fans’ desire to see honest races and honest sport? Really it’s getting sick – can’t Ferrari just do it any other way?

Austria 2002 comes to mind when even Michael’s most devoted fans were p****d off by the team’s decision. Massa was later praised by the big boss for being “magnanimous”, but to see his face when he was receiving his trophy was no fun! The strong guy was on the verge of bursting into tears. And Alonso didn’t look too happy either.

Yet I agree with the author of this article on at least two points: the race was as dull as it was controversial. But well, I’m biased too – never have liked Alonso much.

What else to say? May the best man win. And may the rest of the season be more exciting than this particular GP.

It is yet another reminder that the sport is about money and winning the world championship , and the fans come second.

There were no explicit team orders ,only ‘information’ and if they all tell the same story , nothing will happen.

As to the race , it was over after the first corner . The only real racing was ‘pretend’ and it really was a procession.

And the only other ‘highlight’ was Jensens great drive and the well timed pitstop that saw him finish fifth . Go McLaren :)

Next week Hungary .. and a Massa win ?

Finally congrats to Petrov for getting more points

I have to agree with Steven.

Of course I am biased toward McLaren :-)

Ferrari are playing F1 fans for fools, it is so blindingly obvious what their intention was.

I say give Alonso a time penalty handing Massa the win. I certainly hope Massa follows Webber in showing Ferrari that he is no second rate driver.

Lets hope that the FIA dont go back to the old days of “Ferrari International Assistance”

Just read the linked article, only thing i could agree with was that F1 is meant to be a race… but I didn’t see the Ferrari’s racing they just let one pass the other thus the out cry.

Turn down the sound, watch the body language and then decide who is speaking the truth.
Personally I find Alonso’s petulance tiresome.
It does make a mockery of who dares wins.
Hamilton and Button both had good drives.
The first session of pit stops saw strategies that won and lost the race… well until Alonso had is hissy fit.

They’ll only let Massa win if Alonso finds himself on the 20th position or thereabouts.

Welcome to Saitiria, Andrew, Ocean and Eilidh – thanks for your comments. Hope to see you again – I blog after every race.

What’s a $100k to Ferrari? Pity they didn’t deduct points (or add a time penalty) for Alonso.

first GP of the season i totally missed – I was driving back from a Tango holiday over the weekend and it seems as though I didn’t miss much other than the controversy! (En route I stayed at the home of a Tifosi…!)

At least it will show them that they were bad boys. Again.
